Spring on the flower farm is basically chaos—but the good kind. The "I haven’t sat down in weeks and I’m running on coffee and compost" kind of chaos. It’s the busiest time of the year and honestly? It’s where the magic (and the madness) happens.
As soon as the ground thaws, it’s a full-on planting frenzy. Seeds, seedlings, corms, bulbs—if it grows, it’s getting shoved into the soil. Every bed is carefully planned out (until I run out of room and start cramming things wherever they’ll fit). It’s like flower Tetris with dirt - HAHA.
The boys are out there too—usually with their equipment digging, occasionally in their pajamas, and always finding worms as that's way more exciting than weeding. It’s loud, it’s muddy, and there’s a 100% chance someone’s going to accidentally step on a tray of seedlings. It’s fine. We bounce back...or don't and I'm out 30 seedlings...
We’re also harvesting our first blooms—mainly tulips and daffodils—so we’re trying to cut flowers, run our tulip subscription, answer emails, (we had one spring wedding we did on May Long Weekend) and not forget to feed ourselves. It’s a bit of a blur.
But here’s the thing: it’s worth it. All the early mornings, muddy boots, and half-finished to-do lists lead to armfuls of beautiful blooms, full hearts, and that “holy crap, we grew this” feeling.
Spring on the farm? It’s wild. It’s wonderful. And it’s all in the ground. YAY!
