Planting Peonies 101

Planting Peonies 101

Well, grab your shovel and a little bit of patience because these beauties don’t plant themselves! Here’s how to make those peonies pop:

Pick the Perfect Spot: Full sun, is truly the best. They want at least 6 hours of sun, just like you need your morning coffee.

Dig Deep, Baby: You’re gonna dig a hole about 2 feet deep and wide. Peonies don’t do cramped. Make sure the soil drains well; they’re not fans of wet feet. Think of it like this > peonies need room to stretch just like you need room for that extra scoop of ice cream.

Plant 'Em Right: Eyes to the sky (Eyes are those little reddish buds)! They shouldn't be more than 2 inches below the soil surface. Any deeper and they’ll give you the cold shoulder and skip blooming. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Feed ‘Em and Forget ‘Em: Toss a little compost or bonemeal in there for good measure, then fill the hole back up and pat it down. But don’t baby them too much—they thrive on a bit of neglect.

Wait and Just Wait: These divas need time to get ready for the big show. You’re looking at two to three years before they really show off. But when they do, you’ll be strutting around like you grew Beyoncé herself.

And there you have it! Follow these steps, and before you know it, your peonies will be flaunting those beautiful blooms all over your garden. You're welcome.
